A Toast to Open Debate

I propose a toast. Let me tell you why, and to whom. Here in San Diego, gay rights activists are organizing a boycott against the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel, an elegant downtown hotel with magnificent views of the San Diego Bay, Coronado Island, and the Pacific Ocean beyond. Why? Because its owner, Douglas Manchester, has the audacity to support the radical notion that marriage is between a man and a woman. On a local talk radio show, gay activists describe him and anyone else with these views as hateful.

Memo To Advocates of “The Conservative Case for Same Sex Marriage”

Well, it is official. You won. We lost. Same sex marriage is the law in California. We might win the amendment in the fall, but let’s face it. The momentum is on your side: the Inexorable March of Progress and all that. Those of us in the Marriage Movement can go back to our main business of trying to make marriage more permanent and stable. To tell you the truth, same sex marriage is a bummer of a topic that isn’t much fun to talk about. I’d much rather spend my time trying to steer people away from divorce and cohabitation and teen sex. (more…)

Gender Jumble: California Student Civil Rights Act ends gendered education

The hyper-active gay-rights establishment in California has finally succeeded in getting the Governor Schwarzenegger to sign the California Student Civil Rights Act. State Senator Sheila Kuehl’s new bill adds sexual orientation and gender identity to the list of groups protected from educational discrimination. Teachers and school districts have been prohibited from “giving instruction… [and] sponsoring any activity that reflects adversely upon persons because of their race, sex, color, creed, handicap, national origin or ancestry” and more recently, sexual orientation and gender identity have been added to the list. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has placed his name and prestige at the service of reforming California politics. He has personally promoted four initiatives which will have the effect of reducing the influence of special interests in politics and promoting fiscal responsibility. Not surprisingly, the current owners of California’s political system are in an uproar. So much so, that they may be willing to bankrupt themselves to defeat the Governor. (more…)
